Child Welfare in China
Research Bid
I am developing contacts with other authors, academics, NGOs and individuals who work in China and have written about or who have experience of the Chinese Child welfare system. I am currently developing a project to explore the 'best interests' of children in state care in China. Please contact me if you require further information.
The Research team from TCRU and the OU are interested in talking to post doctoral researchers (British or Chinese) who would like to be part of this work and travel with us to China. It is an exciting opportunity and we would love to hear from you if you would like to discuss the research. We recently visited China as a research team funded by the Sino British Fellowship Trust(SBFT) and are developing a number of academic papers with colleagues from Renmin University.
Transitions in Child welfare - globalization and orientalism
On Tuesday 26th June 2012 - I gave a presentation at the International Development seminar on 'Asia rising: A new Oriental Globalization?'
Orientalism can be defined as how the West views Asian culture - what are the discourses, myths and factual representations that inform our understanding of Asia? How does that affect our understanding of the state's care of children in China?
